Information for commissioning an artwork

If you'd like to have your own Native Wirelife sculpture but aren't sure what would look best, just ask. I'm happy to have a look at the potential site and let you know what I would recommend - in person (if you're local and the site can be viewed from the street) or by emailing me a few photos of the site.

Requests should fit with my artistic goals. If you're unsure, please read the information on the 'Artwork' and 'World & Audience' pages. Requests that do not fall within my scope (e.g. animals from another country) may be given a lower priority or be declined. Requests from within Ku-ring-gai and surrounding areas may be given priority as this aligns with my artistic objective (please let me know). Artworks are intended to be displayed publicly or visible from the street, unless it is not practicable to do so. All reasonable requests will be considered.

Please let me know if you are requesting an installation or free-standing sculpture. Installations are sculptures that need to be attached to a structure (a tree, rock, fence, wall etc). Installations may need to be 'fitted' to a structure before completion, and several visits may be required. I will check the site to make sure an installation is suitable (some trees are better than others). Artworks are installed by the artist, or instructions can be provided on request.

Free-standing artworks are either attached to a movable base, or not attached to any structure. A base can be provided (e.g. rock, concrete paver, log) or you can provide your own.

I am most interested in reptiles, mammals, and birds that live in (or once lived in) Ku-ring-gai and surrounding areas. If you'd like a list of animals to choose from, please let me know. Other native Australian animals will also be considered.

Costs are calculated based on hours worked, complexity of design, and materials. A rough estimate of the total cost will be given initially, however this may differ to the final cost. Any changes to an initial estimate will be discussed with the client in advance. Payment is taken upon completion. Please note: sculpture size is not always the best indicator of cost. Smaller sculptures can be denser, involve a higher degree of complexity, and sometimes take longer to complete.

The time it takes to complete a wirelife sculpture varies depending on multiple factors, including: complexity of design, health of the artist (especially eyesight), number of projects, and competing priorities. Requests that are accepted may be placed on a waiting list. Customers are notified when their project is next in line, commenced and completed. Customers are also notified of any disruptions that may delay the completion of their project.

All Native Wirelife sculptures are designed to be durable and long-lasting. If, however, a wirelife sculpture is unexpectedly damaged by natural causes you can request a repair. Small repairs by the artist are free for the life of the artwork (or as long as I am able). I want all of my sculptures looking their best! I will let you know if a repair is not possible. Repairs may be refused for neglected sculptures. Please do not attempt repairs yourself.

Locations

Most commissioned sculptures are found in Ku-ring-gai and surrounding areas. A number of overseas requests have been received.
