"All 'wirelife' sculptures are made for the outdoors ... after all you probably don’t want to find a possum inside your home!"

Wirelife

I use galvanised wire to make life-sized sculptures of native Australian fauna (mammals, birds and reptiles) - predominantly those found on the eastern coast.

I achieve differences in line, shape, shade, and texture by working with different widths of wire and variations in density. Occasionally, aluminium, nylon, or pieces of an old fence are integrated to add features. Each sculpture is painted with zinc-rich paints to add protection and durability.

All 'wirelife' sculptures are made for the outdoors and are intended to be displayed in a position that represents a natural location or behaviour – after all you probably don’t want to find a possum inside your home! The position of some sculptures is determined before completion, to ensure that a natural ‘fit’ is achieved.

In addition to being made from strong materials, my artworks allow wind, water and sunlight to penetrate; reducing the likelihood that they may be damaged by the elements, and minimising any potential impact on vegetation.

I consider my artworks to be tributes to Australia's unique native wildlife - those that once did, or that continue to inhabit suburban areas. I study each animal carefully to ensure their qualities and characteristics are reflected in my designs.

The length of time it takes me to complete a ‘wirelife’ sculpture depends on several factors, including size, complexity of design, and the stability of my eyesight.
